Keep Our Waterways Clean!
Keeping our waterways clean starts with you! Keep human waste from Oregon's waters.
Human waste threatens fish and wildlife, and causes bacterial illnesses such as hepatitis and E-coli.
Follow these guidelines when boating:
- Encourage everyone to use the shoreside facilities before casting off.
- It is illegal to dump any untreated sewage into inland lakes, rivers or coastal waters inside the three-mile limit.
- When going boating for three or more hours, know where there are onshore or floating restrooms (see link below).
- Keep fats, solvents, oil, emulsifiers, paints, poisons, phosphates, disposable diapers and sanitary napkins out of your holding tank or portable toilet. These items can damage the sewage disposal equipment and increase the cost of disposal.
Help other boaters understand ways to control boat sewage; be a clean boating steward and pass pumpout/dump station location information on. Encourage marina operators to install a pumpout and dump station.
The Board uses Clean Vessel Act funds for these facilities. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service administers CVA funds through a national competitive grant program.
