Emigrant Lake Boating Speed Change Proposed

The Oregon State Marine Board will hold a public hearing Wednesday, April 28, at 7 p.m. in Medford to consider a request to change boating speeds on portions of Emigrant Lake. The hearing will be held in the Jackson County Courthouse, 10 S. Oakdale.

The Jackson County Board of Commissioners has requested a "slow-no wake, maximum 5 mph" speed limit in the Hill Creek and Emigrant Creek arms of Emigrant Lake near Medford. The request is due to safety concerns - with narrow channels and waterside vegetation, anglers and boats can be obscured from faster-moving boats.

People may also mail or e-mail (Marine.Board@state.or.us) comments to the Marine Board. Comments must be received by Friday, April 30.

People who, because of a disability, need some form of assistance to participate in the meeting are requested to contact Jill E. Andrick at the agency at least two days before the meeting, at (503) 373-1405, ext. 243.
