Public Comment Period: December 1 to December 29, 2000
To Whom: Oregon State Marine Board (OSMB)
About What: Proposed boating regulations on Lookout Point Reservoir located in Lane County, Oregon.
The Proposal: The Marine Board has received a request from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Willamette Valley Projects Office, for special boating regulations on Lookout Point Reservoir. The Corps is requesting that the Board close an area "north and east of a 'no motorized' buoy line anchored just inside Bannister Cove" to motorboat entry. Bannister Creek and Bannister Cove are located on the north side of the reservoir just east of Ivan Oakes Park.
The Corps cites the recent construction of a campground and boat ramp at Ivan Oakes and the high concentration of Western Pond Turtles in Bannister Cove which they believe may be negatively impacted by a presumed increase in motorized boat traffic on this portion of the reservoir. Protection of the Western Pond Turtle from motorized boat traffic was recommended to the Corps by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service during informal consultations between the two agencies.
