Marine Board Welcomes New Member

Bob Montgomery, of Cascade Locks, has been appointed by Governor John Kitzhaber to serve on the Oregon State Marine Board. He replaces outgoing Board member Nancy Hungerford, who has served on the board since 1993.

"We’re pleased to have someone with his depth of public service and his knowledge of boating issues," says Marine Board Director Paul Donheffner. "We’re looking forward to his assistance in serving Oregon’s recreational boaters."

The Marine Board is a five-member citizen body appointed by the governor and confirmed by the Senate. The Board guides the direction of the agency, setting policies, adiminstrative rules and approving funding for law enforcement, facilities development and administrative needs. Board members serve four-year terms.

Montgomery served as District 56 State Representative from 1995 to 2001. He is an avid boater, a former manager of the Port of Cascade Locks and also served in the U.S. Coast Guard. Other duties have included: Hood River County Administrator; State of Oregon Executive Department, Intergovernmental Relations Division; Deschutes County Commissioner; small business owner/manager; vice-president TREECO Veneers Company; and Longshoreman.

He joins fellow Board members Louise Gatlin, of Portland, Court Boice, of Gold Beach, Don Christensen, of Salem and Jim Whitty, of Coos Bay. Whitty was re-appointed to the board by the governor in June to serve another term.
