Marine Board approves OYCC Grant Requests
The Oregon State Marine Board approved five challenge grants to the Oregon Youth Conservation Corps for projects that will benefit motorized boating facilities around the state. The board met Thursday, April 4, in Salem.
OYCC has been an active partner with the Marine Board for 14 years. Through the program, youths learn skills constructing a variety of boating access facilities. They also receive training in water and boating safety. They have completed dozens of projects across Oregon waterways.
The Marine Board approved $31,375 for five projects. Projects include:
1. Deschutes County - Heart of Oregon, Deschutes National Forest Youth will construct wood boarding floats and concrete abutment for East Lake boat ramp in Newberry National Volcanic Monument. $8,500.
2. Lane County Looking Glass Youth & Family Services, Lane County Parks Dept. - Repair floats, paint restrooms, stripe parking areas. $7,500.
3. Wallowa County Training & Employment Consortium, Wallowa County Parks Landscape parking islands on newly constructed parking area. $3,500.
4. Douglas County Phoenix School, Douglas County Parks Dept. Construct low retaining wall and stabilize bank at Scottsburg Landing and Whistlers Bend boating facilities on Umpqua River. $7,000.
5. Josephine County The Job Council, Josephine County Parks Dept. Stripe parking areas at 10 boating facilities, repair and paint restrooms and widen the access trail to restrooms. $4,500.
