Marine Board Meets in Portland Jan. 7

The Oregon State Marine Board will meet Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, at the Portland Expo Center. Among other items, the Board will consider proposed boating regulations on the Siuslaw and Willamette rivers, as well as numerous facility grant requests.

The meeting will be held in Hall D and will begin promptly at 10:30 a.m. People planning to attend the meeting should contact the Marine Board at (503) 373-1405 x243 for specific information. The meeting agenda follows:

  • Director's report
  • Siuslaw River, Lane County speed restriction: The Board will consider a petition by local property owners to establish a 5 mph, Slow-No-Wake zone on the Siuslaw River between rivermiles 11-16 downstream from Mapleton. Staff is recommending denial of the petition.
  • Willamette River, Yamhill County: Yamhill County Commissioners have requested a change to make local rules consistent with state rules. The request would change a rule requiring "slow-no-wake within 150 feet of a boat ramp" to be consistent with a statewide rule setting the distance at 200 feet. Staff is recommending approval.
  • Facility program report: The Board will consider ten grant requests for the amounts and location as follows: $38,000 for Nehalem gravel parking and access, Tillamook County; $36,000 for California St. flush restroom, North Bend; $25,000 for Hebb Park parking, Clackamas County; $20,000 for Boones Ferry parking, Clackamas County; $26,000 for Pilcher Creek toilet, Union County; $33,706 for Marina, pumpout and dump, Port of Arlington; $25,000 for Armitage parking, Lane County; $17,000 for Strome parking and toilet, Lincoln County; $29,000 for vault toilets in Josephine County; $8,366 for pumpout replacement at Rocky Pointe Marina, Multnomah County.
