Boating Safety Instructors To Get Teaching KitsThe Oregon State Marine Board and the U.S. Coast Guard are partnering to provide educational teaching aid kits to U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and U.S. Power Squadron instructors in 2002. "This is something that was requested by instructors," said Marine Board Director Paul Donheffner, "It's part of our effort to meet the continuing educational needs of boaters. It's also recognition for the critical role the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and U.S. Power Squadron play in implementing our Mandatory Boater Education Program. We know from our years of involvement with these organizations that these materials will be put to good use." Each kit includes such items as distress signals, life jackets, navigation aids, rope, cleats and other teaching props. "This is an excellent example of a partnership between the Oregon State Marine Board and the U.S. Coast Guard," said Don Knesebeck, of the U.S. Coast Guard. "It will provide boating safety organizations with materials needed to offer quality boat safety education. Instructors will receive a container of some 30 items designed to help teachers be more effective." The cost for the kits will be shared equally between the Marine Board and the Coast Guard. Kits will be distributed to 22 flotillas and five squadrons. ### Marine Board Funds Improvements at Boice-Cope Park
