Marine Board Meets in Hood River

The Oregon State Marine Board will meet in Hood River Oct. 9 to discuss a number of items, including rules affecting registration of moored boats, highlights from the 2001 State Boating Survey, and elimination of thrust limits for electric motors on certain lakes.

The meeting will be held at the Hood River Inn and will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. The meeting agenda follows:

  • Director's Report
  • Uniform Electric Motor Thrust Regulation. This amendment would eliminate thrust limits for electric motors on Walton Lake in Crook County; Ben Irving Reservoir in Douglas County; Agate Reservoir in Jackson County; Goose and Mission lakes in Marion County; and Lake Penland and Willow Creek Reservoir in Morrow County.
  • Definition of Boat Operation. Proposed new wording explicitly defines boat operation (as used in OAR 250-010-0050) to include moorage and storage on waters of this state. The proposed wording clarifies when current registration is required. Under this change, boats moored or stored on state waters would be required to carry current registration.
  • Fees for furnishing information. Proposed rule would set fees to more accurately reflect new technology used to furnish information, such as databases and other records, when requested.
  • 2001 Boating Survey Highlights. Results from the 2001 Boating Survey will be summarized. The report includes demographic, use and other information relating to boats and boaters using Oregon's waterways.
  • Facility program report.
  • Education / Information Program Report.
  • Law Enforcement Program Report.

The meeting facility is accessible for persons with disabilities. Persons needing some form of assistance to participate in this meeting due to a disability should contact Jill Andrick at (503) 373-1405, ext. 243, by Friday, Oct. 4. Persons wishing to address the Board on non-agenda items may do so during a designated period at the start of the meeting.
