Oregon State Police Honored for Service to Boaters
Oregon State Police Marine Officers received several awards from the Oregon State Marine Board for service to Oregon’s boaters. The awards were announced at a recent meeting in Bend.
Sr. Trooper Marshall Maher, of the Northwest District of the Oregon State Police, received the Trooper of the Year award for service during the 2004 boating season. In addition, Sr. Trooper Kim Campbell received a certificate for his work to keep intoxicated boat operators off the water, arresting seven individuals for “Boating Under the Influence” violations.
A special award was given to Lt. Steve Lane, OSP Northwest Region Manager, for his “extraordinary efforts in working effectively with the Marine Board to enforce Oregon’s boating laws.”
Other awards announced during the meeting include: Top Seasonal Deputy, Seasonal Program to Brad Maesner, Deschutes County; Top Seasonal Deputy, Year-round Program to Dep. Jessica Harkin, Multnomah County; Rookie of the Year to Dep. Jon Bock, Lane County; Award of Excellence to Sgt. Marc Heckathorn, Jefferson County; Marine Investigation Award to Dep. Tom Turk, Jackson County; Certificate of Appreciation for theft and investigation support to Jackson County; Top Boating Under the Influence Enforcement Award to Dep. Jimmy Gyllenskog, Jackson County; Program Manager of the Year to Lt. Monte Reiser, Multnomah County; Most Improved Program to Multnomah County; Seasonal Program of the Year award to Polk County; Yearly Program of the Year award to Jackson County; Tom Rice Instructor Award to Dep. Ernie Fields, Josephine County.
