Oregon State Marine Board Honors Long-time Supporter
On February 15, 2005, the Oregon State Marine Board honored Jim Schwitter, former Vice President of Columbia River Yacht Association, with the Friends of Boating Facilities Award.
As a supporter of boating facility enhancements, Schwitter was instrumental during the planning process to obtain building permits for the Bartlett Landing transient moorage facility. He actively lobbied on behalf of boaters, making phone calls and visits to key officials to make sure that boaters’ needs were being heard.
Schwitter provided written comments and support materials when the rules and design guidelines relating to boating facilities under the Americans with Disabilities Act were being revised by the federal Architectural and Transportation Barriers Compliance Board.
Schwitter has been a key point of contact for the Marine Board’s facility program over the years, offering a wealth of boating information on both the Columbia and Willamette river systems and all of their ramps and facilities.
