Klamath County Marine Law Enforcement Program Honored

The Oregon State Marine Board (OSMB) bestowed law enforcement awards to counties throughout the state at a recent meeting in Bend.

Klamath County Sheriff’s Deputies Jess Stennett and Pete York both received Public Safety Officer Life Saving Awards, for their efforts on Lake Ewauna on April 11. Deputy Stennett and Deputy York rescued two women from a capsized racing skull. The two women were suffering from hypothermia, but the deputies quickly transported them to EMS personnel for treatment.

“These officers save lives through their daily actions,” said Bill Rydblom, Law Enforcement Program Manager for the OSMB. “Without them, boaters wouldn’t feel nearly as safe.”

Other awards announced during the meeting include: Award of Excellence for BUII Enforcement, Deputy Jimmy Gyllenskog, Jackson County; Making an Outstanding Contribution to Oregon’s Marine Law Enforcement Program, to Deputy Tom Turk, Jackson County; Maintaining an Excellent Marine Enforcement Program, to Sergeant Pat Rowland, Jackson County; Public Safety Officer Life Saving Award, to Senior Trooper Don Frerichs, Oregon State Police SW Region; Award of Excellence: Trooper of the Year, to Senior Trooper Marshall Maher, Oregon State Police NW Region.
