Lane County Marine Law Enforcement Program Honored
The Oregon State Marine Board (OSMB) bestowed law enforcement awards to counties throughout the state at a recent meeting in Bend.
Lane County Sheriff’s Deputy D.J. Mann received the Award of Excellence: Rookie of the Year Award. This is the second consecutive year that a Lane County Sheriff Deputy has received this award. Deputy Mann received this award for becoming the top producing marine officer during his first year. Deputy Mann came to the marine patrol with great energy and a positive attitude, receiving many compliments from boaters.
Lane County Sergeant Bryon Trapp received the Program Manager of the Year Award. Sergeant Trapp transformed the Lane County Sheriff marine program into one of the top performing programs in the state. This is even more impressive, as Lane County has the highest number of waterways in the state to patrol, spanning from the coast to the Cascade Mountains. Lane County Sheriff’s office became incredibly pro-active in addressing safe boating issues and training support in this diverse county.
“These awards are given to recognize top performance. To give credit to officers who reach above and beyond the requirements,” said Bill Rydblom, Law Enforcement Program Manager for the OSMB. “People’s lives are directly affected by the actions of these officers.”
Other awards announced during the meeting include: Public Safety Officer Life Saving Award, to Senior Trooper Don Frerichs, Oregon State Police SW Region; Award of Excellence: Trooper of the Year, to Senior Trooper Marshall Maher, Oregon State Police NW Region; Tom Rice Instructor Award, to Corporal Will Coleman and Deputy Doug Strain, Coos County.
