Clean Marina Program Comes to Oregon!
The Oregon State Marine Board (OSMB) announced that it will be launching the Oregon Clean Marina program in November. This voluntary program will recognize marinas, boatyards, yacht clubs, and floating home marinas that, along with being in compliance with environmental regulations, use a high percentage of environmentally sensitive practices.
As a certified “Oregon Clean Marina”, a marine facility is authorized to fly the Clean Marina flag, use the logo in advertising, and receive other benefits. In addition, the Oregon Clean Marina program provides information to marina managers on how to reduce the input of polluting materials such as oil, paint, cleaning chemicals, sewage, fish waste, and trash into the environment. Paul Donheffner, Director of OSMB, remarked, “Recognizing and encouraging environmental stewardship of marinas through the Clean Marina program is an important aspect of providing an enhanced environment for Oregon boaters and keeping our waterways clean.”
Informational workshops that explain the new program and provide information about a topic of environmental concern have been scheduled. Individuals involved with marine facilities are encouraged to attend.
