Radio Broadcast Emphaizes Safety in Tillamook and Yaquina Bay
Boaters in the Tillamook and Yaquina Bay areas can improve their safety by tuning into Station KPD 585 at 1610 AM. This channel serves as an excellent resource for boaters, as it allows them to check conditions prior to heading out on the water.
These broadcasts have been placed in conjunction with recorded telephone messages, and were created to ensure boater safety in hazardous waterways. Boaters are able to efficiently receive information through the use of this resource. These broadcasts also help members of the U.S. Coast Guard, by lowering the total number of non-emergency calls received by radio operators.
The boating safety broadcasts were created through a partnership between the Oregon State Marine Board and U.S. Coast Guard. There are plans to install similar radio broadcasts in Depoe Bay and Winchester Bay. Jyll Smith, of the Oregon State Marine Board noted, “We hope these broadcasts will make all boaters feel informed and safe on Oregon’s waterways.”
