Immediate Release
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol received top honors among marine programs statewide at a recent Oregon State Marine Board conference in Bend. The awards are for service during the 2006 boating season.
Jackson County Marine Deputy Jimmy Gyllenskog and Deputy Ian Lance were honored for outstanding enforcement of boating and alcohol laws. This is the third year in a row Deputy Gyllenskog was honored for his efforts at keeping intoxicated boat operators or passengers off the water, citing 10 individuals for Boating Under the Influence of Intoxicants in 2006. The newest addition to the marine patrol, Deputy Lance was recognized for 5 BUII arrests during the season. “BUII enforcement requires individual commitment, a lot of extra effort and is not for the faint of heart,” says Bill Rydblom, Law Enforcement Program Manager for the Marine Board. “We anticipate great things from this program and the impressive people who keep getting better at what they do.”
Jackson County was also honored with the Program of the Year award. Rydblom said their effectiveness as a marine program is unsurpassed. “Jackson County continues to be the model program in this category of awards. Individually and as a team, they excel at marine law enforcement.”
