Input Sought for Proposed Rule Update for Mandatory Education Program

The Oregon State Marine Board is interested in hearing from the public on a proposed rule update for the Mandatory Boating Safety Education Program.
The current rule allows boaters to take agency approved Internet boating safety courses. Under the proposed rule boaters would still be able to take Internet boating safety courses; however, the rule would modify the definition of an “Approved Course Provider” and define “Internet Boating Safety Course.” A new section is also being proposed, specific to Internet Course Providers, which defines the state’s Internet Boating Safety Course approval requirements. Additionally, the proposed rule will change the current replacement fee for the boater education card from $5 to $8 in order to cover the increasing costs of processing and mailing.
The Marine Board is accepting written public comment on the proposed housekeeping rule. All comments must be received by Thursday, November 30. Comments can be sent to MariAnn Koloszar, OSMB, P.O.
