Input Sought for Proposed Rule on the North Fork Siuslaw River

Immediate Release

The Oregon State Marine Board will be holding a public meeting in Florence regarding a proposed 5 mph speed limit for the North Fork Siuslaw River.  The meeting is at 7 p.m., November 14, at the Port of Siuslaw, 1499 Bay Street.

The Marine Board received a petition in April from a landowner seeking a 5 mph limit in order to protect boaters, the shoreline and dikes from wake damage.

“What we want to know is if this proposal is supported locally, or if it’s unneeded,” said Randy Henry, Policy and Planning Analyst for the Marine Board. “Has the river use changed enough that some sort of restriction is needed and is this proposal a viable solution?  I’d really like to hear input from local individuals.”

In addition to the public meeting, the Marine Board is accepting written public comment on the proposed speed limit. All comments must be received by Thursday, November 30.  Comments can be sent to Randy Henry, OSMB, P.O. Box 14145, Salem, OR 97309.  They can also be sent via email to Randy.h.henry@state.or.us, or via fax (503) 378-4597. Comments by telephone cannot be accepted.
