Trout Unlimited Volunteer Honored with Special Award
For Immediate Release
The Oregon State Marine Board recognized the efforts of Michael Cooley of the Middle Rogue Steelhead Chapter of Trout Unlimited, with a Special Award. The award was given during the Marine Board’s bi-annual Facilities Grant Workshop inSalem, January 30.
Michael Cooley approached the Marine Board several years ago and proposed building a new ramp at the Hog Creek facility on the Rogue River. This facility is managed by the Bureau of Land Management and Josephine County.
Cooley documented the safety concerns related to the precarious take-out situation at the old ramp and the growing use of the river by drift boats with motors. He helped raise the funds needed to match a grant from the Marine Board and regularly visited the site during construction to provide the county with progress reports.
Because of the efforts by Michael Cooley, the new ramp at Hog Creek was designed, permitted and built in a little over a year, despite overwhelming obstacles.
