Klamath County Marine Patrol Honored for Service to Boaters
The Oregon State Marine Board presented Klamath County Marine Patrol for service to Oregon’s boaters.  The award was presented at their annual post season conference on October 17, in Bend.

Corporal Shawn Richards of the Klamath County Marine Patrol accepted the Education Award.  “Klamath County has made the most significant efforts in school education by teaching children how to have fun and be safe on the water,” said Bill Rydblom, Law Enforcement Manager for the Marine Board.  “Klamath County conducted 7 Boat Oregon Classes, 3 equivalency exams and 81 school presentations effectively reaching 5,623 students. Corporal Richards has also shown a genuine passion for educating children about water safety and sees the importance of reaching them when they’re impressionable.  Klamath County Marine Patrol has done a stellar job of educating boaters,” Rydblom added.  
 
Other awards presented during the conference included: Most Improved Yearly Program to OSP -NW Region; Most Improved Seasonal Program to Yamhill County; Program of the Year, OSP –NW Region; Program of the YearSeasonal to Benton County; Education Award –Seasonal Program, to Washington County; Officer of the Year to Deputy Steve Dangler, Multnomah County; Seasonal Officer of the Year to Deputy Jerry Roley, Washington County; Rookie of the Year, Deputy Nathan Thompson, Clackamas County; BUII Enforcement  to Deputy Paul Vitus; Trooper of the Year to Senior Trooper Marshall Maher, OSP Oakridge and Trooper Martin Maher, OSP Cottage Grove; Tom Rice Instructor of the Year to Bernie Altishin, OSMB Cadre; Special Instructor Award to Deputy Jim Drew, Clark County, Washington; Manager of the Year to Lt. Pat Rowland, Jackson County; Program Administration Award of Excellence to Clatsop and Lane Counties; Volunteer of the Year to Bernie Altishin, OSMB Instructor Cadre and Paul Cody, Deschutes County.
