Marine Board Meets in Salem March 15
For Immediate Release
The Oregon State Marine Board will consider a proposed rule change on the requirement for charterboats to carry single sideband radios when operating beyond 20 miles offshore. The change would allow charterboat operators to carry satellite telephones in lieu of single sideband radios. The Board directed staff to review all of the current Oregon ocean charterboats equipment requirements, including navigation equipment and life raft requirements for boats traveling beyond 20 miles.
The meeting will be held Thursday, March 15, at the State Marine Board office at 435 Commercial Street N.E. in Salem and will begin promptly at 9 a.m.
The Board will also receive an update regarding Outfitter/Guide charter boat reciprocity with Washington State and will decide whether to adopt temporary rules for the lower Columbia River.

- Policy and Planning Report
- Law Enforcement Program –Rulemaking, Vessel Communications Equipment
- Education/Information Program Report
- Facility Program –Facility Grant Requests
