Marine Board Approves Facility Grants, Other Items

Immediate Release

The Oregon State Marine Board approved boating facility grants and discussed other items at their quarterly meeting on Thursday, March 15, in Salem.  These projects bring the total investment in state funds for boating facilities during the 2005-2007 biennium to more than $6.9 million.
  • Port of Newport at the South Beach launch ramp received $84,274 to install a new four-stall flush restroom
  • Coos County obtained $198,000 to expand parking area paving, striping and lighting at Tenmile Lake
  • Jackson County received two (2) grants totaling $40,000 to install parking area lighting at Klum Landing on Howard Prairie Lake and Takelma Park
  • Portland Metro obtained $90,000 to perform design and engineering services for a wave attenuator at M. James Gleason boat ramp

The Board also approved amending final costs for several projects that are entering bidding and construction phases because material prices have increased. All of these projects will be completed by the end of June.

The Board granted the Director delegated authority to adopt and file new temporary administrative rules that allow Oregon fishing guides to operate within Oregon and Washington waters of the Columbia River below the bridge at Longview-Rainier.

The Board also delayed a decision on a vessel communication equipment petition to the June Board meeting.  The petition sought to allow un-inspected ocean charter boats to use satellite phones in lieu of single sideband radios. The action allows time for further comment by vessel operators, as well as additional research by staff.
