Marine Board Seeks Input on Rule at Willamette Falls
For Immediate Release
The Oregon State Marine Board is interested in hearing from the public on a proposed change to the boating deadline at Willamette Falls. The new deadline is necessary because of flow changes caused by new fish bypass equipment in the cul-de-sac area of the falls. Public comment on the proposed change will be accepted through April 4. A public hearing will be held Wednesday, April 4, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Clackamas County Public Safety Training Center, 12700 SE 82nd Avenue in Clackamas.
In 2006, Portland General Electric completed installation of the T.W. Sullivan North Fish Bypass facility at Willamette Falls. The new bypass spills up to 500 cubic feet of water in the direct vicinity of the current boating deadline. After surveying the bypass during the winter months, the Marine Board determined that this is a significant safety hazard to recreational boating and requires changing the current boating deadline.
The proposed deadline will be a straight line across the river from the northwest corner of Black Point at Blue Heron Paper Mill, to the north shore of the Willamette at the West Linn Paper Mill.
The Marine Board is also accepting written public comment on the proposed rule. All comments must be received by April 4. Comments can be sent to Randy Henry, OSMB, P.O. Box 14145, Salem, OR 97309. They can also be sent via email to randy.h.henry@state.or.us, or via fax (503) 378-4597. Comments via telephone cannot be accepted.
