City of Elkton Receives Grant to Acquire Boating Access Site

The City of Elkton received a grant from the Oregon State Marine Board to acquire an existing privately-owned boating access site on the Umpqua River.  The Marine Board approved the grant at its quarterly Board meeting on April 7, in Wilsonville.

The Umpqua River is the seventh most-used waterbody in Oregon, with boating access widely distributed along the river.  The closest upstream launch is 30 river miles away at Yellow Creek, and the next closest downstream access is at Sawyers Rapids, a distance of ten river miles.  The single-lane located on a 3.8 acre parcel that the city plans to convert into a public park with access to the river for boaters.

The City of Elkton requested $172,500 in state funds which will be combined with a $56,500 cash contribution by the applicant and other sources.  The cost of the property is $230,000.
