Come Boat on Prineville Reservoir’s New Boating Facility at Powder House Cove

The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department has a new boat launch facility for public use on Prineville Reservoir.  Powder House Cove, which officially opened on May 11, now holds the honor of being the largest boating facility on the reservoir.

The Oregon State Marine Board and the Bureau of Reclamation worked together with State Parks to provide funding for the new launch site, which evolved from an unimproved gravel access road and ramp to a new, two-lane concrete launch ramp with self-adjusting boarding floats, new restroom, and a paved access road.  There are over 100 parking spots catering to a variety of sizes for vehicles and trailers.
“This new boating facility should be very popular and heavily used,” said Wayne Shuyler, Boating Facilities Manager for the Marine Board.  “We anticipate this launch site drawing boaters to the reservoir from Central Oregon and around the state.”  Prineville Reservoir is the third most heavily used reservoir on the east side of the mountains.
