Marine Board Approves Several Small Grants
The Oregon State Marine Board approved seven small grants (under $50,000) at their quarterly Board meeting held on April 7, in Wilsonville.
- Coos County received grant assistance to purchase the Rooke-Higgins boat ramp, an existing public ramp, on property leased by the County from private owners. Located on the Millicoma (North Fork of the Coos River), the ramp is 3.5 miles from the confluence with the Coos River. By acquiring this property, boaters and anglers will continue to have access to this section of river. The Marine Board approved $50,000 in state funds, which will be combined with a $5,000 in-kind contribution by the county to purchase the 2.12 acres of land.
- The Port of Cascade Locks was awarded a grant to replace boarding floats at the public boat launch at Marine Park, on the Columbia River. The Marine Board approved $49,700 in state funds, which will be combined with $15,500 in-kind and cash contributions by the Port of Cascade Locks.
- The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) requested assistance to replace the boat slide at the Siskeyville access on the Wilson River. The Marine Board approved $25,000 in state funds, which will be combined with $53,500 cash and $12,673 in-kind contributions from ODFW.
- The City of West Linn received a grant to complete a hydrological study and analysis of the existing Cedaroak launch ramp, located on the Willamette River. The results of the study will be used to determine a location for a new launch ramp that will replace the existing one that sees perennial sedimentation and requires frequent dredging. The Marine Board approved $35,000 in state funds, which will be combined with $10,000 cash and a $2,250 in-kind contribution from West Linn.
- State Parks was awarded a grant to replace the boarding floats at the public launch ramp located in G Loop of Detroit Lake State Park. The Marine Board approved $35,000 in state funds, which will be combined with $35,000 cash contribution from State Parks.
- The City of Independence received a grant to retain a consultant to prepare permit applications with supporting information needed to obtain environmental permits for a proposed new boat ramp on property recently acquired by the City for a new park. The Marine Board approved $40,000 in state funds, which will be combined with a $10,000 in-kind contribution from the city.
- The Port of Newport was awarded a grant to replace an existing sewage pumpout in the South Beach marina and relocate it on a new dock in another location. The Marine Board approved $21,903 in state funds and $65,709 in federal Clean Vessel Act Funds, which will be combined with an $11,822 in-kind contribution from the Port.
