Oregon State Marine Board
The Board
The Oregon State Marine Board was created in 1959 by the Oregon Legislature in response to the growing popularity of recreational boating and the federal Boating Safety Act of 1958. The governing board consists of five members, appointed by the governor and confirmed by the senate The Board sets state boating policy and has the authority to enact rules for boat operation. The agency itself is a small, independent department, consisting of a director and 38 staff who work hand in hand with the Board to provide boaters with safety, education, marine law enforcement, boating facilities and titling and registration services.

A five-member citizen body appointed by the Governor guides the direction of the agency. Members serve four-year terms.
